Blox Fruits Wiki

Inflicts pain-based attacks, causing damage over time.
Description in Shop

Pain (formerly known as Paw) is a Legendary Natural-type Blox Fruit that costs $ 2,300,000 or R$ 2,200 from the Blox Fruit Dealer.

The Pain Fruit allows the user to convert damage taken and absorbed Pain Ghosts into additional power. It is a high-risk, high-reward fruit that is particularly effective in Last Stand mode and at close to medium range. Upon losing all health, the fruit automatically awakens, temporarily increasing the user’s damage, speed, and mobility. Its moves feature large AoE attacks with low knockback, making it useful for grinding.

Upgrading

Pain can be upgraded via the Admin Panel.

Abilities

Name Description Showcase
Pain Meter
The user has a passive meter bar that fills up with damage taken and Pain Ghosts absorbed. Having a full meter will unlock the user's inner pain, buffing Normal Attack's damage, reducing skill cooldowns (approximately 23.43% averaging between all skills) and increasing speed. The amount of Pain Meter received when taking damage is percentage-based on the user current HP, rather than max (lasts 1 minute).

Last Stand
Upon losing all health, the user enters a berserk state with a screen-shattering effect, emitting a red aura and standing in a crooked stance. During this state, the user dashes longer, Air Jumps can jump higher, and both gain cloud-like VFX, movement speed is increased, holdable abilities charge faster, damage taken is reduced by 60%, skill cooldowns is reduced by 40% and M1 damage is nearly doubled. However, only Pain moves can be used. The state lasts for 30 seconds (60 if upgraded). When the Pain Meter runs out, the user will die instantly, regardless of being in Combat or not.
LastStand
Pain Ghosts
Each time the user misses the Z, X, C [Held], F [Held] moves, it spawns in a Pain Ghost possessing a sinister smile or sad frown that has a cloud-like appearance. These can be absorbed by the user to fill up their Pain Meter and instantly reset the cooldown of [F] Torment Warp. They can also heat seek towards nearby enemies and deal damage if the user has the third upgrade, Torment Conductor unlocked. These Pain Ghosts break instinct upon contact with an opponent. The Pain Ghosts will heat seek faster towards opponents while the user is in Last Stand.

This move has 2 variants:
  • If tapped:
    • The user shoots out a Pain Ghost that explodes upon contact with a surface or a player's hitbox. If the third upgrade, Torment Conductor, has been activated, missing will spawn additional ghosts.
  • If held
    • The user shoots out a barrage of Pain Ghosts, lowering in damage output with each successive hit. Likewise, missing will spawn Pain Ghosts. This move gradually slows down over time.

    This move has 2 variants:
  • If tapped:
    • The user releases a fast, concentrated ball of energy that drags nearby enemies in, which quickly expands upon contact, with Pain Ghosts fueling it, exploding soon after and knocking pulled enemies away. This move is quite similar to Awakened Sand's [V] Deep Sand.
  • If held:
    • The user covers their face and is surrounded by a blazing red aura. Upon release, a large Pain Ghost roars out a powerful beam of red energy, deals damage, and pulls enemies to the end of the beam stunning them. Holding the move for longer will result in an even larger Pain Ghost shooting out a larger energy beam, which deals more damage. The fourth upgrade, Spectral Assimilation is required to be unlocked to use this.

  • If held:
    • The user holds out an enlarged throbbing ball of dense energy, having a similar design to its tapped variant, surrounded by the fog of Pain Ghosts. If hit, the enemy is dragged forward and suffers with the same effects as the tapped variant. The size of the ball is based on how much full is the pain meter. This move is multi-target.

    Cons
    General
    • High mastery requirements.
    • All of the moves can leave the user vulnerable.
    • Requires precise aim at long range.
    • All moves hard to hit in aerial combat.
    • Despite giving a second life, the user will immediately die if their meter runs out.
    • Dragon Talon Z Finisher can bypass Last Stand passive.
    • Upgrades are expensive and have high mastery requirements.
    [TAP] Normal Attack
    • Short range.
    • Untrue stun (Enemies can still use abilities whilst being hit).
    • Last hit deals absurdly high knockback.
    [Z] Fury Jab
    • Small direct hitbox.
    • Vulnerable during prolonged usage.
    • Although this move can be held infinitely, both, the speed and damage will gradually worsen after a few seconds of the move being held.
    • Despite the attacks seeming to stun, the effect is short and opponents can interrupt the attack in between
    [X] Rage Release
    • Small hitbox.
    • Short dash range.
    • Single-target.
    • Cannot break instinct.
    [C] Agony Nuke
    • Medium start-up time.
    • Small direct hitbox. (Tap)
    • The knockback trajectory can make combos more difficult, such as having to aim Godhuman's [Z] Soaring Beast at the enemy.
    • Hard to hit in active PvP. (Spectral Assimilation)
    [V] Torturing Pulse
    • Low tick damage.
    • Single-target. (Tap)
    • Slow projectile. (Held)
    • Drains Pain Meter. (Held)
    • Long start-up. (Held)
    [F] Torment Warp
    • The second part of Agony Surge can be hard to control effectively.

    Notes

    • [V] Torturing Pulse is a good Instinct Break move due to enemies taking continuous tick damage after being hit by the move. Some sword and gun users use it solely for this reason.
      • It may be more effective to use than other fruits like Ice if not a fruit main, as Ice's combos can easily be Instinct-tricked (unless they have Cyborg V3), while [V] Torturing Pulse makes combos impossible to Instinct-trick.
    • When entering the Berserk State (reaching the maximum Pain Meter), it is recommended that the player disengages from PvP combat and retreats immediately rather than continuing to fight.
    • It is recommended to use Pain as a fruit main, as Last Stand, while a useful second life, locks the player into using only the fruit, rendering their other weapons useless, which could be a huge hindrance without any stats invested into Blox Fruit.
    • Due to Last Stand being considered a transformation, the user is incapable of activating their Race V4 after the mode activates.
      • Like other transformations, Race V4 can still be activated before Last Stand is activated and it will persist , until Race V4 runs out or the player dies.
    • Despite Last Stand giving the user a second life, they should be wary if they are fighting a Cyborg user, as if they happen to die to their v3 Energy Core or its awakened electricity passives, it will kill the user without triggering their second life.
    • Last Stand will not activate if the user was killed by the ocean, despite water damage being able to fill the Pain Meter.
    • During a Raid, the user can absorb Pain Ghosts, meaning that the user can build the Pain Meter by taking damage or absorbing Pain Ghosts.
    • While Last Stand is active, there is no way to fill the Pain Meter, even if Pain Ghosts are absorbed or damage is taken.

    Grinding

    • Although this fruit possesses great power and potential, it is not recommended for grinding due to the high 4th M1 knockback and very demanding matery requirements.
    • However, if one wishes to grind with this fruit;
      • They may repeatedly spam M1 and on the 4th one, dash and M1 again. This has a chance to pick the enemy up again and repeat the cycle again (This tactic may also be used for PvP)
      • 3 M1, Long held X, Tapped or Held C, 3 M1 (wait for NPC to come down), Held Z, Tapped V. (If you don't have the [V] Torturing Pulse move you can use the 1st part of the combo)

    Trivia

    • Along with a few other fruits, Pain (named Paw at the time) was in the Fruit Awakening straw poll of Update 14. However, Rumble received the most votes, resulting in Pain getting no awakening.
    • Pain has its own death animation when Last Stand is activated.
    • Pain is the second fruit to have revive/second life mechanic, the first being Ghost Fruit.
    • [V] Torturing Pulse has the same mesh as Sanguine Art's [C] Devourer of Worlds.
    • The first boss to use the reworked pain fruit is Agony (not counting the tormented bosses from the pain event).
    • The Pain Ghosts will prioritise refilling the user if they are within closer proximity, regardless if they were targetting an opponent with Torment Conductor unlocked.
    • The CHROMATIC skins released in the Summer Gacha refer to emotions:
      • Sadness's colour scheme, which consists primarily of blue, refers to how the colour blue is commonly associated with sadness or feelings of isolation.
      • Torment is an emotion that involves extreme mental distress and anguish. The dark crimson is similar to Pain's original colour scheme, both being shades of red. This is further tied in with the name of Pain's original colour Agony, which is also a synonym for severe emotional or mental suffering. The colour scheme of this chromatic is similar to blood.
      • Frustration's colour scheme is similar to fire, referencing how both fire and anger are intense, potentially destructive, and escalate quickly.

    Bugs

    • Due to a glitch, the [V] Torturing Pulse appears to be looking sideways. As of now this bug has been patched.
    • The Pain Meter resets whenever switching to another item or weapon in the hotbar. Switching to a different weapon while the Pain meter is active will turn off the effects of the Pain Meter. (This bug patched but still exists in old servers, such as version 27.2.0)
    • The Pain Ghosts sometimes don't follow the user. This occurs when the player is too far away from main map, such as when in Sea Danger Levels 5, 6 and Raids.
    • Sometimes, landing [X] Rage Release will cause the player to briefly be teleported into the sea (just outside of Castle on the Sea when performed in Third Sea).
    • If the player activates Last Stand and times out in an arena duel, the duel will end, and keep the player in Last Stand, and put them in a glitched state. After the user dies, they will be frozen in place. They can leave this state by using [X] Rage Release, desyncing them from their invisible body. In the desynced state the player can move around freely, and not take damage from any source. However, the player can still be killed if the location of their body is attacked. All attacks are usable, but come from the location of the body. The glitch resolves upon death.
    • Due to overuse of Agony Surge at times, the user's body will glitch into a crouched position, in this state the users fishing reels are severely off center. Simply use [F] again to restore normal pose.
    • If you are using your sword/gun/fighting style when Last Stand activates, as long as you don't switch back to Pain, you will be able to use the selected sword/gun/fighting style but not the M1s.
    • If the user tilts their camera angle to look into Pain's [V] Torturing Pulse, the user's avatar will appear texture-less.
