Instinct (formerly known as Observation) is an ability that allows the player to dodge incoming attacks from enemies or players and see entities from afar and through solid surfaces. While Instinct is activated, the user will gain 2 dodges at level 1, whereas each dodge takes around 50 seconds to recharge. The player can increase the number of dodges they have by getting Instinct EXP, which can be obtained by dodging attacks while Instinct is active. The player can know how much Instinct exp they currently have by talking to the Instinct Teacher. Dodges can also be increased by equipping accessories such as the Pale Scarf, Kitsune Mask, etc. Each dodge takes 0.5 charges against non-boss NPCs. Instinct can be upgraded to a V2 version (known as Instinct v2) in the Third Sea.

Obtainment[]

Instinct can be learned by talking to the Instinct Teacher, found in the Temple located in the Upper Skylands.

Requirements[]

  • To learn Instinct, the player needs to:
    • Be Lv. 300 or higher.
    • Have killed Saber Expert at least once.
    • Have MoneyIcon 750,000 (to purchase Instinct).

Go to the second area of the Upper Skylands. The teacher can be found at the top of the big temple-like structure near the Thunder God Boss .The hotkey for this ability is [E] or [K] (Left-D-Pad on controller).

Training[]

Each dodge gives one EXP. (Levels below are estimated, and there is no guarantee that they are entirely correct.)

  • 0 EXP - Level 1 - 2 charges.
  • 50 EXP - Level 2 - 3 charges.
  • 330 EXP - Level 3 - 4 charges.
  • 815 EXP - Level 4 - 5 charges.
  • 1417 EXP - Level 5 - 6 charges.
  • 2090 EXP - Level 6 - 7 charges. (Increased visual range)
  • 2824 ~ 5000 EXP - Level 7 (MAX) - 8 charges.

While grinding Instinct exp, it is recommended to farm the Shandas while server hopping, as this allows for the greatest number of dodges per server hop, and the player can spawn right next to their area. They're also close to the Instinct Teacher, allowing the player to check their level whenever needed. If the player wishes to AFK grind for instinct exp, it is recommended to farm earlier enemies, such as Monkeys due to the low damage output. If the player is using an Elemental-type fruit, they will have to choose any enemy with Aura or a boss. It is also recommended to use an accessory that gives more charges, as these count to the EXP level up as well.

Notes[]

  • If the player activates Instinct while also holding a move (e.g. T-Rex's X move), it will break even if their dodge count is not exhausted.
  • Non-boss enemies only drain half a dodge, instead of a full one. Half dodges still give the player 1 Exp.
  • Many attacks can temporarily disable Instinct, known as "Instinct Breaking". Players can use this to their advantage during PvP. NPC attacks can also sometimes disable Instinct.
  • The maximum number of dodges is 8 (11 with Pale Scarf, Kitsune Mask and Human v2) at 2824 EXP, but players should get it to 5000 EXP for maximum range and do the Hungry Man Quest to get Instinct V2.
  • Using Pale Scarf will increase instinct vision by x10.
  • Upon reaching instinct’s max level, the player will be given the "Ultra Instinct" title #069.
  • It takes approximately 50 seconds for 1 dodge to recover.
  • Other players are always detected from further away than NPCs. This is to prevent lag.
  • Activating Instinct during a move to avoid additional damage or combos is known as 'Instinct-Tricking'. This can be used to avoid a lot of damage but can take a lot of practice to perform successfully.
  • It is recommended to get this before Second Sea since it can prove to be very important and useful later on in the game.
  • There is no cooldown when the player hops servers, therefore making it easier to grind EXP by simply hopping servers when the player has finished their charges.

Trivia[]

  • Instinct can detect NPCs that have not spawned if the player's range is far enough.
  • Resetting with Instinct enabled will disable Instinct.
  • The player's Instinct will be forcefully disabled when they join a raid.
  • The Pale Scarf can increase Instinct vision range by 10 times (only noticeable for players, not NPCs) and adds 2 extra Instinct dodges.
    • Extra Instinct dodges also do count towards training.
  • The Holiday Cloak and Leviathan Crown can also increase Instinct dodges by 1.
  • The Kitsune Mask also increases Instinct dodges by 2.
